Online Voice Lessons for Worship & Choir Singers
Sing Sunday with less effort
Sing with Ashten offers private, one-on-one online voice lessons on Zoom for church worship singers, worship leaders and choir members. Lessons are taught by Ashten Smith, a classically trained soprano with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and over fifteen years of experience as a voice teacher and music director.
Worship and choir singing asks a lot of your voice: rehearsal plus two or three services, early mornings, long held phrases, and keys chosen for someone else. In lessons we work on the songs from your actual set list or choir folder, so every lesson is immediately useful on Sunday.
What we work on:
- Stamina to get through rehearsal and multiple services without hoarseness
- Breath support for long phrases and building choruses without pushing
- Microphone technique for soft and loud moments
- Blend and harmony: hearing your part, matching vowels and staying on pitch next to other singers
- Sight-singing and learning your part for choir
- Range and keys that fit your voice
- Confidence leading or singing in front of a congregation

What to expect in a voice lesson
-
Discuss your vocal goals: You'll get some time to go over what your vocal goals are, whether that is to improve your karaoke skills or nailing an audition for your dream role!
-
Evaluation of vocal health: In the beginning of your lesson, Ashten have you do a few warmups to hear how your voice is currently working and responding to different exercises. This helps determine a good strategy for your voice.
-
Personalized Online Coaching: We'll come up with a personalized strategy to help you reach the vocal goals you described at the top of the lesson. Plus, we'll apply this to a song you are working on!
-
Practical application: Once we have reviewed some strategies and exercises that will work best for your voice, we'll apply it to a song you are working on, so be sure to have a song ready that you feel stuck on and we'll see how to unblock your progress!

Frequently asked questions
Do worship singers need voice lessons?
You don't need lessons to serve, but lessons help you sing with less effort, stay healthy through busy seasons like Christmas and Easter, and feel more confident on stage.
Why does my voice get tired or hoarse on Sundays?
Usually it's a lot of singing, often loudly and early, in keys chosen for someone else. Without steady breath support the throat, jaw and neck tighten to compensate. I teach this as the breath → tension → pitch chain: fix the breath first and stamina gets easier. If hoarseness lasts more than two to three weeks, see an ear, nose and throat doctor.
Can online lessons help with harmonies and blend?
Yes. We work on hearing and holding your part, matching vowels and volume, and staying on pitch, using the songs your team or choir actually sings.
Can a whole worship team or choir section take lessons?
Ask about it in your intro lesson and we'll find a format that works.
How much do lessons cost?
Private lessons are 30 or 45 minutes on Zoom, on monthly plans starting at $120/month. For a full breakdown, read How Much Do Voice Lessons Cost in 2026?
